Martin has worked in Psychiatry since 1993, as a Nurse, Adolescent Milieu Therapist, and since 1997, as a psychologist, team leader and manager in the Victorian public psychiatric services and private Adolescent Psychiatry
Martin led the South East Primary Mental Health team for ten years and the Adult and Adolescent Consultation Liaison Psychiatry and the Gender Dysphoria Services at Southern Health since 2007. He acted as Psychology Discipline Senior in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in that year and was Adult Eating Disorder Project officer for Southern Health in 2009.
