Experience

Caroline Shahbaz specialises in working with complexity — particularly where shorter-term or solution-focused approaches have not been enough.

She is a highly experienced psychologist and psychodynamic psychotherapist with over 30 years in clinical practice, working with adults, couples, families, and organisations. Her work focuses on relational dynamics, long-standing emotional patterns, and the deeper structures shaping how people experience themselves and others.

Caroline’s approach is grounded in depth psychology, drawing from Jungian and analytic traditions, and integrated with relational and systemic thinking. In simple terms, she helps clients move beyond surface issues to understand the underlying patterns, unconscious dynamics, and relationship templates driving their difficulties.

Her work goes beyond symptom relief, supporting meaningful and sustained change through insight, self-awareness, and a deeper understanding of personal and relational history. She works in a flexible, integrative way, tailoring her approach to the individual, couple, family, or organisational system she is working with.

Caroline has extensive experience in trauma and complex trauma, attachment difficulties, relationship challenges, identity concerns, grief and loss, and major life transitions. She works collaboratively and in a non-pathologising way, helping clients make sense of their experiences rather than reducing them to diagnoses.

She also has internationally recognised expertise in relationship diversity, alternative sexualities, and complex relational configurations, and works in an inclusive, culturally attuned and respectful way with diverse expressions of identity and intimate life.
